Madison(9)+Mackenzie(6)+Mason(3)…in the desert

Our awesome hosts and friends here in the desert!  We have had the BEST time with these guys.  Staying at their home for these past 4 days has been a real treat, and we so appreciate having their wonderful mom and dad as friends!

During the weekend, we photographed a bit around the house….jumping on the beds and such!  But a couple days ago at sunset was the big session.

Now, I think Matt and I underestimated….shall I say…the harshness?… of the environment here.  So as we were running around outside the big wall if their manicured back yard, out in the wild…..we were put in our place.  With me dangling a cactus branch from my knee and Matt enduring the bites of giant man eating ants….the kids just started to scream.  I mean sad, scared for their lives screaming.  Now, the UGG boots, jeans and tights totally protected them (Matt’s Rainbow flip flops, notsomuch) so they were by no means getting slammed the way we were…..but they wanted OUT of there.  Mom and dad were wanting to throw in the towel and were so sweet to be concerned abot our mounting injuries.

But seriously?  There was NO WAY that we were leaving that desert without a great pic of this family who flew us out here and treated us like royalty for 4 days!  And so, in the end, everyone rallied for roughly one minute.  Crying subsided, the light got sweet and the shot just happened.  Phew!  Then it was time to pluck out 175 cactus spines from my knee…..

Oh!  Check it out……the newborn portrait we took of baby Mason curled up on Dad’s pitcher’s glove three years ago.  His baseball bedroom is so cool.  Over that portrait is the quote painted on the wall that reads, “Pitchers, like poets, are born not made.” (Ty Cobb)  And trust me, if you saw this 3 year old throw a baseball like I did this weekend, you’d agree….
